A traditional Palestinian wedding in a village close to Nablus
We watched the first part of a wedding which, as you can see in the video, is reserved for men. The women can just watch from the roof top (which did give us a great view) and then have their celebration the day after.
For the men, professional singers were invited to sing for three hours. This involved a dialogue of poetics words exchanged between the two singers. This kind of music, called “Hadaga”, is typical for Palestinian village weddings. While the songs are sung, the men dance together all the time, moving in a circle and clapping. We also saw a special dance performance, the “Dabka”, by 12 professional dancers to the sound of tambourine and the typical Palestinian flute, the ” Shababa”.
